Canada Maintains Retaliatory Tariffs on US Goods Amid Trade Tensions
Canada will retain 25% retaliatory tariffs on approximately 70% of U.S. goods, covering C$42 billion (US$30.1 billion) in imports, excluding automobiles. The decision, announced by François-Philippe Champagne via social media, marks a continuation of trade measures initiated in March 2025.
Only select items deemed critical for health and public safety have been temporarily exempted. The MOVE underscores ongoing economic friction between the two nations, with Champagne emphasizing the targeted nature of the exemptions while maintaining pressure through sustained tariffs.
